You’ll probably have a questioning expression on your face right now. “Why is Alpha audio testing a smartphone?” Because we are an audio platform after all. That’s absolutely right and the explanation why we are testing a smartphone is quite logical. We are testing the Samsung Note 9
Audio has long since ceased to be an amplifier and speakers. The enormous growth in technology and software has also affected the audio industry. Sometimes very clear and visible, sometimes a little less clear and visible. The smartphone is a good example of this. Because without us noticing, it took the place of all sorts of loose devices. We used to take a phone, an mp3 player and a photo camera with us. Nowadays all those devices are in the smartphone. When testing network players or soundbars, we almost always use the smartphone for control. If we hear a song on the radio and we don’t know the song, Shazam offers the solution. So the smartphone has more influence on audio than we think. But what about the audio quality?
Big and lots
The Samsung Galaxy note 9 is not a little boy. Compared to our daily smartphone, an iPhone 7, the Samsung Galaxy note 9 is gigantic. But unlike many other smartphones, the Note 9 remains narrow and manageable. It just makes the smartphone a bit longer. The display is 6.4 inches in size and has the familiar continuous edges. A super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440. We also have 128 Gb of storage and 6 gb of ram memory. This is more than an average office computer.
The Galaxy note 9 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, an octa-core processor; four energy-efficient cores and four performance scores. We also find some great cameras on the smartphone. At the back 2x a 12 megapixel camera (with stabilization) and at the front an 8 megapixel camera.
Maybe all this information tells you already audio enthusiast little, but as soon as we tell you that this smartphone is one of the best devices on the market right now. And the fact that Samsung has thought of audio enthusiasts, then it becomes interesting. The Samsung Galaxy note 9 has a 3.5mm jack for the headphones. In addition, we have stereo sound with speakers from AKG. For watching movies there is even Dolby Atmos conceived in the phone. We were completely happy when we saw that the headset is also from AKG. All the information about what’s in the phone is of course fun, but testing in the Alpha way is where it gets interesting.
