Measurements
Contents
As with many speakers we receive, we measure them. We recently got a DPA 4091 measurement microphone to perform our measurements. It is incredibly precise and flat between 25 Hz – 19 kHz. The signal goes through an Audient ID14 and the Illusonic IAP8. You can see the result below.
Measurements Technics SB-G90
The measurements of the Technics SB-G90 show a few things. The distortion is low. Very low. Especially for this price range. And that’s no doubt due to the thick cabinet that doesn’t vibrate along with it.
The unit is also of a solid design; otherwise distortion would still be visible. This low a distortion across the board helps the stability of the sound. The tuning is for the living room. Do not dampen too much, because then the high will roll off a bit quickly. Straight from the front, the speaker measures through to 18 kHz, but further away, the high frequency energy falls off fairly quickly it seems. All speakers do that, but this Technics does it a bit more. Perhaps because of the tweeter that lies somewhat deep (coaxial). Turning it towards the listening position will help if you miss some sparkle.
