Measurements

Contents

What we see with the Teufel Definion 3F is a remarkably tightly tuned response. Really very impressive in this price range! What’s even better, however, is the off-axis response. It is almost as straight as the direct measurement. In short: we can expect a fairly large sweet spot without waste of high frequency information.

In terms of distortion, we see that the whole thing is pretty good. Except for a hump in the lower midrange that we just can’t get rid of. This hump from 150 to 500 Hz reaches the 1% mark, which we find somewhat high. This may be an effect of the bass reflex, or the configuration with 3 woofers. We see in this class that a speaker usually drops below 1% after about 100 – 200 Hz and stays there.

However, the rest of the spectrum is between 0.3 and 0.1% which is just very decent. However: all in all remarkably good results for a speaker in this price range. Especially in terms of neutrality and off-axis performance.

Conclusion

Teufel has really surprised us a bit with this Definion 3F. This speaker really measures up very well for a product in this class. Especially off-axis everything holds up wonderfully well. Match this floorstander with a more nimble amplifier. And a model that does not push too much in the bass. The Yamaha A-S2200 goes well, is our experience.

All in all a fine product which - we think - can measure up well in its class.
