We have been using Yeti power cables for years now. Back then, there was one model: solid core. Simple, sleek … fine cables. We never had any inclination to change these. Is the Reference better? Yes. Do we find an upgrade necessary in our test system? No.
The new ‘Yeti Standard’ does make us scratch our heads behind the ears. What a tasty little cable this is! It’s wonderfully airy, open … yummy!
The effect is remarkably similar on every device. Whether we feed the MSB with it or the Sonnet or Pass Labs: in all cases we hear an airy reproduction with a lightfooted character. Bizarre that a power cable can do that…. this remains a very strange hobby!
Comparing it to our own solid-cores, we hear a little more air around the image. It feels a little more nimble and a little fresher across the spectrum. The solid cores are a little tighter and present a little more “chest”. But it also feels a bit smaller compared to The Standard….
No brainer
If we then consider that this Yeti Standard costs 289 per meter and 469 for two meters, that’s about half of the solid core ‘standard Yeti’. Well… that’s simple: this new Standard is just better in terms of price/quality. Very well done.
