Digital vs analogue

We take out some nice CD’s and listen to a mix of techno, rock and pop music. It is immediately noticeable that this Kin Play does not play safely, certainly not via the digital input. The height is quite rich in detail and rather spicy in our space. Voices sound pretty clean and the bass is very dry and tight. This makes the sound a lot of fun. Especially pop and electronic music (if desired with a subwoofer) sounds great through the digital input.
The biggest surprise and even more fun we experience through the phono input. We put the CDs aside and get some vinyl out of the closet. It’s been a long time since we’ve imposed another record and when the needle falls into the groove we actually get emotional. Five years ago we sold our turntable and a large part of our vinyl collection to start all over again. And although that decision has brought about a lot of changes, the imposition of a record remains something special.
The music sounds completely different now. Fuller and richer but less waisted. Voices have a bit more meat on the leg and instruments have a bit more weight and power. This time we like the balance with jazz and rock music. We put off our audiophile hat and sit on the carpet enjoying a lot of records that we have not played for a while. We read the credits and check which instruments are used on certain songs. Just like old times. We listen to multiple albums and lose track of time. The sound is not as refined as our Audio Vectors but what gives it when you have so much fun.
