There are still people who believe that silver in an interlink sounds fresh and sharp. Believe us: silver does not sound sharp at all by itself. Just read our article about cable research. The conclusion is that the type of material does not matter very much; it is the geometry and shielding that makes the difference. Moreover, Yeti also shows again with the Silverlink V2 that silver just sounds smooth, supple and friendly. We tested the 699 Euro balanced version.
The Yeti Silverlink V2 is an interlink that uses 99.99% OFS, solid core silver conductors. These are wrapped in cotton which is impregnated in mineral oil. The cable uses a coaxial geometry and uses a nice, black finish with Yeti connectors (silver-plated copper).
The cable is shielded with foil (aluminum), which is not always the case with Yeti. We also know that there is Teflon around the conductors as a dielectric and that conductive PVC was used as shielding in addition to foil.
Because of its coaxial construction, this interlink can also be used as an AES or rca digital cable. By the way, we did not test it that way in this test.
Neat
The Silverlink V2 is – after the Yeti Standard interlink, €449, 1M – basically Yeti’s entry-level cable. At 699 Euros for the balanced version, however, that’s “end game” for a lot of enthusiasts. Because let’s face it: 699 Euro for a piece of cable is just a lot of money. For many people, that’s just ‘end game’. And we understand that very well.
A bit off topic, but by now we know that we have to see a piece of cable as a part of a system. After all, that piece of cable transports the music. And so it must do that without affecting the signal. “Sounds simple!” Well…no. Just look at our research and then look at the measurements. Especially the ‘fading’ or ‘tamping out’ (for lack of a better word) of the signal and the measurements that chart the timing. It’s not as simple as it seems.
Back to the Yeti Silverlink V2. So this cable uses pure silver, solid core conductors. In the case of the XLR, there are two of them (and the shield of course). These conductors are again wrapped in cotton (a very fine dielectric) and the cable is also shielded. The Silverlink V2 is the only interlink that is shielded….
The plugs are Yeti’s own design. The more expensive models use ETI plugs. We must say: the cable looks neat with the solid plugs and black sock!
