Music streamer Tidal is going to split its HiFi subscription, with the standard subscription now also having access to uncompressed sound.
Good news for everyone who subscribes to Tidal’s standard tier. From now on, they too will have access to streams in uncompressed CD quality via the “new” Tidal HiFi. The catch is that for them, it’ll be (16 bit / 44.1 kHz) also the highest possible quality. If you want true hi-res, then there is Tidal HiFi Plus. This tier gives access to things like MQA, Dolby Atmos Music and Sony 360 Audio. The music streaming service has a few more things in the pipeline. Including, for example, “direct-to-artist” payments, where 10% of your HiFi Plus subscription is paid to the artists you listen to the most each month. In this new situation Spotify is the only remaining streamer that does not yet offer uncompressed music in CD quality or higher. The previously announced hi-fi subscription is still not available at the time of writing.
