Although the majority of Sonos users long for the return of the old Sonos app, it has been confirmed that it won’t be making a comeback after all.

Just last week, Sonos hinted that they were seriously considering bringing back the old app. However, according to an article by The Verge, that option is now off the table. Reportedly, this decision was made much to the dismay of Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, who previously stated that reviving the old S2 version was a real possibility. In this Reddit AMA discussing the ongoing Sonos chaos, Spence explained that it’s simply not feasible anymore due to the incompatibility between newer software in Sonos speakers and the old app (as illustrated in the screenshot above).

Update for New App Version Coming Next Week

In the latest update to the mentioned Reddit discussion (at the time of writing), it was announced that a software update for the new version is planned for next week:

We’ve got the next software release planned for next week, which brings a host of improvements, with a special focus on making setting up new products more reliable (and reducing the occurrences of situations where it asks you to setup products you’ve previously setup) as we know this has been a particular pain point (in fact, our #1 reason for people contacting customer care). The other big area is reducing the number of ‘Something went wrong’ errors. Please be sure you have auto-updates on to get the latest & greatest.

For the frustrated army of Sonos users, it’s going to be a nail-biting wait over the coming weeks and possibly months.
