Atoll has also fallen victim to vTuner, the aggregator responsible for maintaining a database of internet radio stations—or more precisely, the current URLs for those stations.
The true philosophy behind vTuner remains a mystery, but one thing is clear: in a remarkably short time, the service has lost nearly all of its major clients. Its current status is also uncertain. It appears to have transitioned into a paid service, yet even individual customers who have taken the risk and subscribed are voicing complaints. In short, vTuner is no longer a place for reputable companies.
Atoll has now also distanced itself from the aggregator, as Dutch importer Viertron reports:
“Atoll introduced its first streamer, the MS100, in 2013. Since then, the brand has expanded its lineup with various models, including the ST100 and ST200 series. From the start, internet radio has been part of the streaming functionality, requiring an external service provider. At that time, vTuner was chosen as one of the few providers offering worldwide access to internet radio stations.
However, in January of this year, vTuner abruptly discontinued its free service, leaving many streaming devices—regardless of brand—without internet radio. Over the past few weeks, Atoll has worked hard to implement a solution and has now successfully switched to an alternative: the Airable service.”
