What an interesting test this was! Five wonderful speakers. Each with their own strengths and their own things to consider. The Sonus Faber plays at a higher level than we should expect for 1700 euros per pair. On almost every level it amazed. The match with the Pass Labs is excellent, which says something about how cleanly the speaker plays.
True, the Audio Physic goes further in all aspects. It is also almost twice the price. But what a speaker this is! Wonderful. Rhythm, energy, punch … control. It’s all there.
The GoldenEar BRX is actually the Labrador – or better: the Golden retriever of the field: nice and calm, laid back…. It’s a fine match with the Nilai that knows how to keep control well. For 3500 euros in total, you then have a fine system that plays almost everything nicely. We can well imagine that many people find this a fine sound.
Then the JBL HDI-1600. This gives more of a studio feel, because the whole feels very fast and the image is much more forward. Partly due to the horn / compression driver. The match with the Hypex Nilai is simply insane. Fast, rhythmic, control and a surprisingly deep a tight bass.
Finally, the Neat Petite Classic. Yes: it is a small speaker. But make no mistake! This speaker plays big, tight and has an unprecedented grip on the music. Very impressive!
